No More Visits

Well, last night was great, this morning was great (and a bit crazy), and after the kids' social worker and guardian ad litem told us Conor Burke and Teagan are now permanently placed (and this weekend isn't just a visit anymore), it got a whole lot better!

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow!
Praise Him all creatures here below!
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host!
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

Next Wednesday we'll sign the adoption agreement (which makes us official legal guardians), and after TPR (Termination of Parental Rights) is granted, we can start working on legally and officially adopting them. That could take several months still, but we are just about as happy as can be, and much relieved, that they are home for good.

So thanks again for all of your prayers and encouragement. It means a whole heck of a lot to all of us, and we are so blessed that so many of you are thinking and praying for our family.

God bless you and keep you, and show Himself to you as He has shown Himself to us through this.

(CPC folks - they'll be hanging out with us tomorrow, instead of in the nursery, so come find us and say welcome)

Thanks y'all!

Visits #3-5

The week has been going amazingly well!

As I write this post, all the kids are fed, washed, read to, prayed up, and bedded down, and have been so for half an hour (that's by 7:30 y'all). I (Conor) take less than no credit for this. I would be utterly lost (in more than one way) without that sweet girl God blessed me with. She's a star.

We have them for at least tonight and tomorrow, and possibly for the whole weekend. We are really praying that they will be able to stay with us permanently this weekend, and not have to go back. It's been pretty tough on everyone, as it's a good two hour round-trip. We also don't totally understand how it's good for the kids to be going back and forth when they're so comfortable with us already. Before we met them, we were praying that the Holy Spirit would prepare everyone and help us all be comfortable with each other, and it's amazing to see how that has been happening.

We would love it if you would pray for us this weekend. We have some people from DSS visiting tomorrow, and we are really hoping they'll see how comfortable the kids are here, and that it would be better if they were just able to stay.

Thanks again so much, and if you see us about, be sure to ask if you can see some of the adorable pictures we've taken.

Visit #2

We were able to take the kids home for the afternoon today, and Ciahna got to meet them, which was awesome. They all slept well and played well, and fun was had by all (especially Carling). It was hard to take them back, though.

Here's an update on the schedule for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), Carling will pick Conor Burke up in the morning and bring him back home. He will get to spend Wednesday night here, so he can get more familiar with us and his new house.

Carling will take him back Thursday morning and bring Teagan here for the afternoon (but not the night), for the same thing.

Carling will get them both on Friday, and they will spend Friday night, and possibly Saturday night with us as well. It would be amazing if they were able to go to church with us!

Now, depending on who you talk to, they could be permanently placed either over the weekend, on Monday, or on Tuesday (or later). Obviously we vote for the weekend, but we don't get the final say.

So here are some things for which you can be praying:

That we would have trust and faith in God that His plan is being worked out, and that our babies will be home soon, when the time is right.

That Conor Burke and Teagan would have a really easy transition, as that would be better for them and speed up the process a bit.

That Carling and the kids would be safe driving to and from the foster home (it's over 100 miles round trip, and Carling will be making it twice some days).

And most of all that God would be glorified in our family through this whole process.

Oh, and a praise: we were able to buy a van today (actually tonight on my way home from Spartanburg)! It's a bit older, but relatively low miles and works great, and it was very affordable. If you're in the market for a used car, go to McKinney in Easley, and ask for Riley - he was great (he even gave me some advice on hunting rifles).

Thanks for reading, and especially for praying. We appreciate you and thank God for you and your prayers!

Visit #1

Hey everyone. Thanks for your prayers - we really appreciate them.

The visit went really well today. We get to take the kids for the day tomorrow (from about 10 to about 4), and we're really hoping that goes well, too. They will also spend the night with us on Friday. If all goes really great, they could be placed with us by Monday, which is great.

Thanks again for all your prayers and encouragement!

Visits!

Big news everyone - we're visiting our kids tomorrow and Tuesday!

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and words of encouragement.

We don't yet know how many other visits we'll have, or when the kids will be in our home for good, but we should know by Tuesday, and I'll try to keep you updated as soon as possible.

Please pray for us tomorrow and Tuesday. We are very excited to meet them, but we also know it will be very hard for us to leave them, especially if we need to have a lot of visits before we can take them home.

Thanks again for your prayers: they mean so much to our family.

Meeting Update

Hello everyone.

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has prayed for us this week - we appreciate it so much!

Our meeting went really well this afternoon (where we got the full presentation on the kiddos). We aren't saying much as of yet, but we were very encouraged!

Look for more updates as the weeks go by.

Please keep praying for the lead paint test - that it will be moved up if possible, and that we will pass!

Thanks again so much!

Big News, Big Prayer

Hello everyone. It's been a while here I guess. But we're back with some big news, and some big prayer requests.

Today Carling got a call from our social worker that we've been selected for a sibling group of two (a two year old and a one year old). We have a meeting with DSS, where we'll get the "full presentation" on the kids, and will learn everything DSS knows about them. We already know a good bit about these kids, and are confident that they're ours.

So that is the amazingly big news, and we are so overjoyed about it. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us throughout this process.

Here's the big prayer requests.

We moved a few months ago, and haven't gotten our new house tested for lead paint yet. The kids can't be placed with us officially until we take and pass the lead paint test. However, the person who tests for lead paint can't come out until January 2nd, and we are really hoping to have our babies home by Christmas.

We would love it if you would pray for us that:

1) The date for the test would get moved up somehow, and

2) that our house would pass, so that we can get our babies as soon as possible.

Another big prayer request regards transportation. We would really love to get a minivan so that Carling can drive everyone around easily and safely. If you know anyone who has a van that they would like to sell for relatively cheap, please let us know. We don't care about age or looks, as long as it runs well, and still has a good bit of life left in it.

Thanks so much for your prayers and your encouragement over the last year and a half!

(today Ciahna told a friend that she has a brother named Conor Burke!)
